More information for your Guide Trip
The San Juan Angler provides your san juan river fishing guides and all necessary equipment for your san juan river fly fishing trip or trip to our other locations.
Our head guide is Brian Capsay, formerly a member of the US fly fishing Team and his team are an excellent choice for your san juan river fishing guides.
The bios of some of our guides can be viewed here.
We float both the San Juan River and the Animas River. Floating the river is one of the best ways to get the full experience of the river. You will see more of the river and we can usually stop and wade sections that the walk wader is unable to reach.
We can also offer wading trips on local waters.
You can request a half day short walk wading trip through to a hiking full day trip which will take you into some of the best wilderness areas available. Its up to you and your guide.
When you book a trip though us for your san juan river fishing guide everything is included except fishing licenses and the flies you use. Streamside lunch is included with full day trips or when arranged for half days.
Our guides will make sure you have a safe, educational and enjoyable experience on the water.
Frequently asked Questions
1. What do I get on a half day trip?
We supply all equipment including rods, reels, waders and boots. All you pay for extra are your flies used by the guide and your licence for the day.
Obviously if you have a current Colorado licence you are good to go. You may also use your own flies as well if you want to. In addition if you have your own equipment you may use that as well.
2. What do I get on a full day trip.
In addition to all equipment provided on the half day wade, on a full day trip we also supply a lunch.
3. What do I need to bring on my trip?
You should also bring, a hat, sunscreen, polarized sunglasses and a wet weather rain jacket if there is a risk of thunderstorms or rain.
4. On a float trip can I take along a spinning rod?
Yes. Sometimes a fisherman might not have the facility to cast a flyrod all day so there is no problem taking a long a spinning rod. Younger people and children who are not strong fly fishermen can also enjoy a trip more if they can cast a lure or a streamer on a spinning rod.
5. How far is the San Juan float from the Texas Hole put-in?
We float for 5 miles. All other floats by competitors are 4 miles. We get the extra mile because we have our own private takeout. This means we cover water in the last mile which few if any other boats have covered.
6. How do I book a trip?
A credit card is required to make your reservation for a San Juan or Colorado guided fly fishing trip or your Colorado or San Juan float trip. Please call the shop at 970 382-9978 to book a trip.
