The Florida River
The Florida river is located in the Weminuche wilderness and generally is hike in access. There is good fishing close to the trail. One needs to be willing to hike a little to get access.
Generally access is from late spring to late fall. The fall is particularly beautiful with the changing of the colors, the cooling temperatures and the big fish sensing the impending end of the season feeding aggressively.
Equipment: The Florida is attractive to those who enjoy dry fly fishing. It is an ideal river for that small #2 or #3 weight rod which has lain dormant for a time. Bamboo afficianados will delight in the opportunity to take along their prized possessions and fish them in an idyllic environment.
Flies: Generally terrestrials as well as mayflies and caddis. Try Parachute adams, Elk hair caddis, grasshopper patterns, Ant patterns.
